Dog Behavior Training – Tips For Your Success

Create A New Dog Through Dog Training

Welcome to a dog behavior training guide that should help you on your way to a new dog!  This was written to help those with dogs – new or not so much – and will help you train your dog to behave.  With just a little training, your dog can act the way you’ve only imagined.  You just need to know where to start.

The first key to really succeeding at dog behavior training is to make sure your attitude – not the dog’s – is in the right place.  It won’t be always easy to train your dog, but remaining motivated to achieve the goal will go a long way to succeeding.  Showing your pet you have patience will be rewarded with loyalty.

When you start off, you really should start out with the common grammar of training – the elementary commands, like: “Sit! Stay! Come!”  You want your dog to get these down so when you venture out doors, you can be assured you’re in control, especially if he or she gets off the leash.

Remember that positive reinforcement works great on humans and dogs alike – every pet dog wants a treat for a reward.  Be sure to use them for good behavior, and get treats he or she likes.  If your dog doesn’t listen – no treat.  Stick to it, it’s tough love in a way, but it works.  This also helps you to avoid screaming in frustration when your dog misbehaves.  If it gets to that point, you’re losing ground – your dog will simply learn to fear you.  Confident dogs listen better.

Avoid Dog Training Distractions

Another dog behavior training tip is to train your dog away from any distractions.  Though the dog may be a smart little animal, distractions can take their mind off what they’re training to learn.  That’s why you’ll find other smart pet owners training their dogs in open fields and parks.  This is a great place to get training done – your dog will focus on what you have to say.

When you want to teach your pet to sit down, it’s easy to do.  Just put your hand on the backside and gently push it down.  Then you say, “Sit.”  Reward with a treat and praise.  Do this until your dog understands the link between the command and the action, and re-enforce with treats.  You want to be consistent and repetitive for the best results.

Remember that dog behavior training will require you to be on your best behavior – don’t lose your cool or temper.  Remain calm and quiet, don’t yell at the dog.  You should enjoy the time rather than see it as a chore.  Use these tips consistently and you’ll soon own an obedient dog!
